Grading Policy

Grades will be calculated according to the following criteria:

  1. Tests (25%)- Includes all written and playing tests. Students may take tests multiple times if needed until one week before the end of the marking period; the highest score will be accepted.
  2. Class Participation (40%)- Includes worthwhile participation in all band activities, whether during class or combined rehearsal..
This grade is based on the following criteria:
    1. Having the proper equipment for class (instrument, pencil, music, reeds).
    2. Having a positive, cooperative attitude during class.
    3. Following classroom rules and regulations.
    4. Promptness to class.
  3. Homework/Classwork (10%)- Includes any written work to be turned in. Students may make corrections on written
work until one week before the end of the marking period; the highest score will be accepted.
  4. Concert Attendance (25%)- Includes attendance at all required band functions. Students that miss performances will
be expected to make up the grade.

Discipline Policy

Good discipline in the classroom is a must in order to have effective rehearsals. If students are talking, they are not playing
their instruments. In order to maintain good classroom control, the following steps will be taken when a student displays
improper behavior.

  1. First Offense- The student receives a verbal warning, then a written warning.
  2. Second Offense- The student receives a consequence appropriate to the behavior, such as detention, parent contact,
    or a written assignment.
  3. Third Offense- The parent/guardian will be contacted.
  4. Fourth Offense- The student will be sent to the office with a conduct referral.

** In cases of severe offenses, the above system will be bypassed and the student will automatically receive a conduct referral.

Attendance Policy

Attendance and participation are vital to the success of the band program. If one child is absent, it affects the entire band.
Band members are required to attend ALL scheduled rehearsals and performances, EVEN THOSE THAT OCCUR
AFTER SCHOOL HOURS. Unexcused absences will not be tolerated, and will be handled as follows:

Class or Rehearsal Absence- The school attendance policy will be implemented.
Performance Absence- 25% of the final grade comes from concert attendance. A "0" will be given for any unexcused
absence. All absences, with the exception of last minute emergency or illness, must be excused by the band director before
the concert. Two unexcused absences will result in loss of performance and trip priviledges and consideration for dismissal
from the band program.

Students wear the Noble Band Uniform at all concerts unless otherwise instructed.

  • Noble Band Shirt
  • Solid Black pants (NO JEANS, skirts, capris, gouchos, etc.!!!)
